At the Orphaned Wildlife Center, compassion isn’t just an idea—it’s a daily commitment. Founded and cared for by Marty Kowalczik and Debbie Kowalczik, this 100-acre sanctuary has become a safe haven for injured and orphaned animals. Surrounded by trees, water, and quiet space, the center provides an environment where wildlife can recover, regain strength, and, when possible, return to the wild. Over the years, many species have passed through their care, but the bears have become a defining part of their mission.

Among them is Jimmy, a bear whose life has unfolded entirely within the sanctuary. Now 21 years old, he arrived as a cub and never developed the survival instincts needed for life in the wild. Because of this, he remained under the center’s care, where he has grown into a calm and trusting presence. His personality stands out—gentle, steady, and deeply familiar with the people who raised him. For many who learn about him, Jimmy represents what consistent care and a peaceful environment can create.
